Nativity Hot Lunch Program

Monthly Menu

Hot Lunch Policy 2011-2012

Nativity School is fortunate to offer our students and staff an outstanding hot lunch program.  The food is prepared on site by our own kitchen staff and served by a wonderful group of parent volunteers each day.  A copy of the monthly lunch menu is emailed home on the last Thursday of each month and is also available on the Nativity School website.  Parents are asked to review the menu with their children to decide if they will have hot lunch or bring a cold lunch each day.

The hot lunch program is based on a pre-paid basis, and families are expected to carry a positive balance throughout the year.  Families will have the opportunity to deposit money into lunch accounts on Registration Night, August 30, 2011.  Lunch prices for the 2011-2012 are as follows: Grades K-3  $2.25 and Grades 4-8  $2.35. Extra entrees are available for purchase for $0.65 in grades 4-8.  Milk is available for purchase for students bringing a cold lunch and for those who wish to purchase an extra milk for $0.40 a carton.

This year, we will be instituting a new hot lunch computer program, and all hot lunch and milk purchases will be debited on the computer.  This means we will no longer be accepting cash/coins for milk purchases, nor will we be selling “milk tickets” to students who wish to purchase milk for their cold lunch.  Instead, each student will have a milk card to use at school to purchase milk for his/her cold lunches. Even those families that don’t use the hot lunch program, but will be purchasing milk throughout the year, will be asked to deposit money into their family’s lunch account.  Any un-used milk tickets, from the last school year, may be turned into a credit (30 ¢ per ticket) on the student’s lunch account if brought into the office by the end of September 2011.

Last year we modified our hot lunch delinquent account notification process with the intent of giving our families more timely notice of the status of their account when it falls below a zero balance.  Families with children in K-5 received an account statement in the paper pack each week if their account fell below a zero balance during the week, while the families with children in grades 6-8 received notification via e-mail. In the near future, we will be asking families to monitor their hot lunch account balances on-line.  Please watch for information on how to access your account balance later this fall.  In the meantime, families may email Josh at jmedellin@nativity-mn.org or call the kitchen at 651-696-5415 to determine the amount in their account to help ensure that they do not obtain a negative balance.  We ask that phone calls be made between 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.  The kitchen is busy preparing, serving, and cleaning up from lunch between 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. so they will not be able to take your phone call during these times.
