Prayers

As part of our celebration of the year of St. Joseph, Husband of Mary, adoptive father of Our Lord, and patron of the universal Church — promulgated by Pope Francis, we are now praying the following prayer at the end of each Mass at Nativity of Our Lord:

Heavenly Father,
Who gave St. Joseph to Jesus and Mary
As protector and guide,
Grant that our Archdiocesan Synod,
Under his protection and guidance,
May help us discern your direction for our Church.
May we listen as he listened,
Trust as he trusted,
Obey as he obeyed,
Receive as he received,
Love as he loved,
And share in his life of devotion to Jesus and Mary.
Amen.

Jesus, I believe you are truly present in the Most Holy Eucharist.
I wish, my Lord, to receive you with the purity, humility, and devotion with which your most holy Mother received you, with the spirit and the fervor of the saints.
Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, please come spiritually into my heart.
I embrace you as being already there.

The faithful are encouraged to make a regular examination of conscience — even daily — and to pray for forgiveness whenever aware of sin, particularly an Act of Contrition.

Act of Contrition (traditional)

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love.

I firmly resolve with the help of Thy grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen.

Act of Contrition (alternate form)

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. 

I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.

Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, my God, have mercy.

An Act of Contrition inspired by the Gospels

Lord Jesus, you opened the eyes of the blind, healed the sick, forgave the sinful woman, and after Peter's denial confirmed him in your love.

Listen to my prayer: forgive all my sins, renew your love in my heart, help me to live in perfect unity with my fellow Christians that I may proclaim your saving power to all the world.

Novena Prayer to the Holy Face of Jesus by St. Therese

All are invited to join in a novena in honor of the Holy Face of Jesus for the nine days leading up to the Feast of the Holy Face, Tuesday, February 25, 2020.

The novena prayer below is from Saint Therese the Little Flower — who had a deep devotion to the Holy Face — and can be found in the Adoration Chapel.

This is a great way to prepare for Lent, which begins the following day on Ash Wednesday, February 26.

"O Jesus, who, in Thy cruel Passion didst become the 'reproach of men and the Man of Sorrows,' I worship Thy divine Face.

"Once it shone with the beauty and sweetness of the Divinity; but now, for my sake, it is become as 'the face of a leper.'

"Yet, in that disfigured Countenance, I recognize Thy infinite love, and I am consumed with the desire of making Thee loved by all mankind.

"The tears that flowed so abundantly from Thy Eyes are to me as precious pearls that I delight to gather, that with their worth I may ransom the souls of poor sinners.

"O Jesus, whose Face is the sole beauty that ravishes my heart, I may not see here below the sweetness of Thy glance, nor feel the ineffable tenderness of Thy kiss, I bow to Thy Will — but I pray Thee to imprint in me Thy divine likeness, and I implore Thee so to inflame me with Thy love, that it may quickly consume me, and that I may soon reach the vision of Thy glorious Face in heaven.

Saint Margaret Mary, you who were made a partaker of the divine treasures of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, obtain for us, we beseech thee, from this adorable Heart, the graces we need for the success of this Adoration Chapel. We ask these favors of you with unbounded confidence. May the divine Heart of Jesus be pleased to bestow them upon us through your intercession, so that once again He may be loved and glorified through you. Amen.

O my Jesus, you have said: "Truly I say to you, ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you." Behold I knock, I seek and ask for the grace of new scheduled adorers.

For the Strengthening and Protection of Families in Society

The promotion and protection of marriage begins with prayer and is nourished by prayer. We invite you to pray for marriage with us, using either this prayer or your own. From the USCCB website.

God our Father,
we give you thanks for the gift of marriage:
the bond of life and love,
and the font of the family.

The love of husband and wife
enriches your Church with children,
fills the world with a multitude
of spiritual fruitfulness and service,
